Maryland Green Party v. Hogan, No. 1:20-cv-01253 (D. Md.)

Case Summary Plaintiffs the Green Party and Libertarian Party of Maryland sued the Governor and State Administrator of Elections, alleging the governmental restrictions imposed in response to COVID-19 have hindered their effects to gather signatures. Under MD election law, the Green Party and the Libertarian Party needed signatures of at least 10,000 people to become official political parties and nominate candidates. Plaintiffs sought injunctive relief to stop enforcement of the 10,000 signatures policy and lower the minimum requirement to 1,000 signatures in light of the pandemic.
