In re: Extension of time for Absentee and Mail-in Ballots, No. 2020-06413 (Penn. Ct. Common Pleas, Montgomery Cnty.)

Case Summary Facts: The Montgomery County, PA Board of Elections filed an emergency petition to extend the date for the return of absentee and mail-in ballots (to align with the deadline for military and overseas ballots). The extension was requested because an update to the State Uniform Registry of Electors (SURE) system resulted in apartment numbers being dropped from addresses on ballots when they were mailed and many voters complained that they had not received their ballots. The Board of Elections wanted to extend the mail in deadline from June 2, 2020 to June 9, 2020, in order to have more time to mail ballots to voters who did not receive them and return them to count in the election.
